Welcome Laila!

Introducing Laila Cuckson

It’s been a challenging few months for businesses all over the UK and dentistry is no exception. Covid-19 changed our industry overnight but as the lockdown starts to ease, we’re all looking forward to getting some normality back and supporting our customers as they return to their daily practice. On that note we are delighted to announce that we have a new member of the team here at Denka; Laila Cuckson joins our marketing department and is already busy getting to grips with her new role, dealing with online customer enquiries and working to keep our clients informed. We caught up with Laila to get to know her better…

Hi Laila! Congratulations on your new Marketing Assistant role. Tell us a little bit about your day-to-day responsibilities.

Hello! Yes it’s all new for me – I joined in mid-May and this is my first job from being a sixth-former, so it’s been a great learning curve so far. My main role is taking care of the digital side of Denka – including the website, and the social media representing Denka. This involves research, designing, photography, editing and more. I am also the receiver at our end of the ‘Chat with Us’ function on the website, dealing with online customer enquiries and helping out where I can!

What are you enjoying most about your role so far?

Working within the dental sector I find that I’m actually learning new things everyday – not just about the products, but I feel like I know a bit more about what goes on in my mouth when I’m at the dentist, which is quite good to know! I also enjoy being part of the team here, something different happens every day and there’s always plenty to laugh about.

What’s the most challenging thing?

I would say responding to customers who have been let down or have been at the end of a delay we had no control over. Covid-19 has created some unique challenges for everyone!

What would you say are the key attributes required to perform well in your role?

In a marketing role, I think patience is key – it sometimes takes a while to get things perfect but it’s always worth it.

If you didn’t work at Denka, what would your dream job be?

My dream job would be an interior designer, working in home décor, transforming raw rooms into creative spaces – it’s not just a desk job.

Do you have any hobbies or interests away from work?

Away from work I love spending time with my family and friends, but I also enjoy photography, although it’s not something I’m very good at.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself that colleagues might not know?

I have an addiction to shoes, probably one that most girls share but so much so that I wouldn’t like to count the number of pairs I own!

Name a food you love that your dentist would disapprove of?

I’m a complete sweet addict – with a very sweet-tooth, I’ll eat almost anything sweet, except for black liquorice that is!
