How exercise can improve your oral health.

How can exercise improve oral health? We all know exercise has many documented benefits, including its ability to lower the risk of heart disease, obesity, Type 2 diabetes and some forms of cancer, but research also indicates it can boost oral health.

There is a strong link between people’s BMI (Body Mass Index) and their dental health. A recent study has shown that regular physical activity can boost periodontal health, and those who exercise regularly had a 54% lower likelihood of developing periodontisis, compared to those who lead sedentary lives.

It also works the other way around - looking after your teeth can help protect your heart, and thus, your ability to maintain wellness. Scientists think that frequently brushing your teeth reduces the mount of bacteria living in the pockets between the teeth and gums, therefore keeping the bacteria from entering the bloodstream.
