Customer Spotlight: Wollaton Dental Care
We could talk about the dental industry all day – about the importance of oral hygiene amongst the population and about the amazing things that can be done to transform smiles. We’re passionate about this industry and the important things it does, and therefore we’re committed to supporting the front line professionals with the best products and the best customer service. We love getting to know our customers better, building strong relationships, and working collaboratively. That’s why we were delighted to have a chat with Fiona Lees from Wollaton Dental Care, one of our longest-standing customers, to find out more about how Denka makes a difference in the practice…
Hi Fiona, it’s great to catch up! Tell us a little more about Wollaton Dental Care’s story…
Hello! OK, so Wollaton Dental Care has been running for 20 years, and we are a mixed practice of NHS and private patients. We currently have four dentists and three hygienists, forming part of a team that totals 18 people – so it’s quite a large practice.
Obviously with a 20-year history, we’ve been around long enough to build up real relationships with our patients and we’re lucky enough to have multiple generations of the same families on our books. That’s something that’s becoming increasingly rare and we never take it for granted! We have a policy that our patients always see the same dentist at every visit to build up that trust relationship, and most of our staff have been here for seven years or more so people see the same faces every time they come. It’s a friendly place and I think that makes a big difference.
What’s your role in the practice?
I’m the Clinical Manager, so I’m responsible for the smooth running of the clinics on a day-to-day basis as well as managing staff and being responsible for ordering supplies and maintaining an inventory. We’ve been working with Denka for 16 years now and we can’t fault your service – our rep Martin has really gone the extra mile to help us out on costs, and nothing is too much trouble. The service is always helpful and friendly too – great minds think alike!
Tell us a little about the challenges your practice faces, and how Denka helps with those?
I think every dental practice would tell you that time and funding are their biggest pressures. We’re always concerned about resources within the NHS and whether there will be enough funding to continue seeing these patients – and with that comes a time pressure to try and fit people in, because many dentists are shutting their books to NHS patients. It’s a real balancing act and while Denka obviously can’t help with the root cause of the problem, they make our work easier by staying very competitive on price so we can control our budgets, and making it quick and simple to place orders. That frees up my time to get on with scheduling clinics and juggling appointments.
There’s no doubt your job is challenging – so what makes it worthwhile?
For me, it’s meeting new people. You never know who is going to walk through the door and it’s very satisfying to feel that the job you’re doing really helps people no matter what walk of life they come from. On the tough days, it helps to have great colleagues too and I’m very lucky to work with some incredibly dedicated people. Special mention goes to my work friend Catherine Levers – she always makes me smile!
